THE SHADOW PROJECT

MISSION: To make school more accessible and engaging for children with disabilities, so they can achieve their full
potential.

VISION: All children recognize themselves as capable, courageous and ready to learn.

REACH OUT AND READ NORTHWEST

MISSION: Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.

VISION: All families in Oregon will have the knowledge and tools to give their young children the best possible start in life.

SERVICE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Access to books 

  • Children 6 months to 5 years 

  • Literacy resources and education for parents 

  • Primarily low-income families 

  • Provider training 

  • Geography: Statewide


READING RESULTS

MISSION: Partners with schools serving low-income students to provide a proven, data-driven reading intervention program delivered by highly trained, culturally responsive tutors.  

VISION: All children finish third grade able to read.

SERVICE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Targeted reading instruction for first-third graders already falling behind in reading

  • Trained literacy tutors deliver explicit instruction

  • Culturally responsive 

  • Geography: Portland


SMART READING

MISSION: To spark joy and opportunity through the magic of a shared book. 

VISION: An Oregon where all children can realize their full potential through reading.

  • Volunteer-administered reading support

  • PreK to eighth grade

  • Focus on serving highest-need schools and communities

  • Geography: statewide

METROPOLITAN FAMILY SERVICE

MISSION: Metropolitan Family Service helps people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequity and social
isolation.

VISION: A world where children never go hungry, young people are always educated, families are financially
stable, older adults remain connected and all humans are healthy, happy and cared for.
